Deep Root Education has grown from over two decades of working alongside children, families, educators and school communities - watching closely how children learn best when adults create the right conditions for deep, meaningful play.
Everything I believe about childhood, play and meaningful learning has been shaped not by theory alone, but through real practice, real leadership and real children.
Why I started to question education
I have spent over two decades working in education and have had the privilege of serving as a Headteacher since 2017.
Throughout my career, I have become increasingly passionate about understanding how children truly learn best.
Over time, I found myself questioning many of the structures that have become normal within modern education.
Too often, childhood feel rushed. Learning can become overly formal too early, leaving little space for curiosity, creativity, independence and deep thinking.
This led me to begin thinking differently.
Watching children changed my thinking
The more time I spent observing children, the more I realised something important.
Children naturally learn through exploration. They learn by building, imagining, creating, testing ideas, solving problems and making sense of the world around them.
Yet somewhere along the way education often asks children to stop learning in the ways that come most naturally to them.
I began asking a difficult question. What if we moved too far away from how children were designed to learn?
